“We returned home laden with wine and cheese, and so relaxed and regenerated, probably the most relaxing doggy holiday we have had.”
We have just returned from a week in your gorgeous new Gite – our arrival to La Motte was breathtaking, such a welcome, and stunning surroundings. What a wonderful welcome from you all and the very generous and delicious Welcome Pack (four-legged guests loved theirs too) – we purchased some of the wine to bring home :-) Everything was perfect and so comfortable, so lovely to find such a gorgeous, clean place to stay with your dogs, we need more places… We sampled two fabulous Restaurants – Catherine’s Table and La Renaissance – amazing food, surroundings and service – such good value. Amazing Boulangerie in Ecouche, local produce market in Argentan on Tue/Fri – loved Belleme/Falaise and Cabourg – beautiful sandy beach and promenade. We returned home laden with wine and cheese, and so relaxed and regenerated, probably the most relaxing doggy holiday we have had. Good Luck for the summer, although I think you will be fully booked in no time. Best to you all xxxx
“Come see for yourself, you’ll find it hard to leave. It’s serendipity in its most splendid form.”
We stumbled on this beautiful, majestic place when flicking through our facebook file on dog friendly holiday accommodation and decided to give it a try. How fortunate we were as everything was just perfect from the start of our holiday right up to the moment we left. Once there, it was hard to venture out the gate for a while, as we relaxed into La Motte’s charm and effect. We stayed in Cockeral Fontaine which is beautifully decorated and was very cosy for our early spring break and perfect for our needs. Our hosts were very welcoming with a hamper of goodies available to help us through our first day and our two Labrador dogs were in doggie heaven, with the wide rolling lawns to run around freely and the lake to swim in. They found friendly playmates with Mandy and Karl’s large extended family of four-legged furry fellows to romp with and took a shine to one of their lovely spaniels, Ronnie. When we decided to venture out, the surrounding area is full of history, culture and excellent cuisine to savour. The Normandy beaches and war museums are just over an hour’s drive, as is Bayeaux with its historical tapestry and Sees cathedral is approximately 30 minutes to the south. Nearby Argentan is a bustle if you want shopping and Ecouche has an excellent patisserie and a friendly English speaking vet, if needed. Our last day we headed to Suisse Normandie (Rock of Oëtre) and had a wonderful walk along the Orne and taking in the stunning views. We finished with a discovery drive back to La Motte winding through the back roads, sightseeing the pretty hamlets that adorn this beautiful area. Come see for yourself, you’ll find it hard to leave. It’s serendipity in its most splendid form.

“Superb hosts, location and accommodation”
We booked Benjy’s gite because it promised dog friendly accommodation and unlike some other places advertising the same, this one lived up to that promise. From the moment we arrived, Mandy, Karl and Sam made us and our two Labradors feel welcome, and are excellent hosts. They are such down to earth people that we felt immediately at home as if we had known them for years. The gite was superb and well-equipped with large rooms and huge windows, and the outdoor space fantastic for the dogs, who enjoyed swimming in the lake or playing on the lawns. We too enjoyed sitting in the outside areas, which are peaceful and well-maintained. The chateau dogs are all friendly, and the chateau itself stunning. Though the weather was not the best, we found plenty to do, with good walks nearby and places to visit, and nearby Ecouche has a great restaurant, and an excellent and very reasonably-priced vet. We will be hoping to return next year, and only wish we had stayed longer.
“A beautiful homely place to stay; rich in its own history, beautiful land and beyond relaxing.”
We stayed at the Château in April this year for a few days, our stay was amazing. The journey from the ferry was short and very straight forward with the directions from the owners. On arriving at our destination we were greeted by a tree lined avenue that took us to the tall entrance gates of the château. The gates opened and we were met with the gorgeous green lawns and the lake then the beautiful château itself. Mandy, Karl and Sam welcomed us with a warm, friendly and homely manner; as did Ronnie, Reggie, Albert, Flo, Bee and Winnie! :) The grounds are stunning, lush green lawns, a huge variety of tall trees and flowers, La Motte, 2 Victorian lakes – 1 with a duck island!, all safely contained within the perimeter wall making it perfect for visitors with children and/or dogs. Sam has a wonderful and enthusiastic knowledge of the history and events that have taken place at the Chateau and is keen to share it with you. a truly interesting place. During our stay we experienced a truly friendly, relaxing and fantastic service that the family our offering. The gites are all completed to a high specification giving a beautiful mix of luxury and homely comforts. We were given a tour of the grounds and they explained their plans to host weddings, a stunning and intimate wedding venue, the backdrop will make amazing photos! We visited the local towns, a short drive to the market, the intermarche, amazing bread and cake shops and some very good local restaurants. I would absolutely recommended the chateau for a safe, relaxing and beautiful holiday, for yourself, a couple, a family with children or dogs, or both! Great value for money to top it all off. Thank you Mandy, Karl and Sam for welcoming us, for a relaxing and fun stay. Keep up the good work and we look forward to staying again……a lot.

“A chance to relax in historic & peaceful surroundings.”
Once you enter through the grand cast iron gates, we got a feeling immediately of peace and began to relax straight away. You may get greeted by 6 very friendly pups, we did, who will happily show you around the gardens & you will see ducks on the lake with their very own impressive house. We were completely wowed by the history of the land and the chateau. The gite is incredible, beautifully (well done to the history of the building) decorated and spacious. Hunting round the local area we found the local village, only a short drive away, where we got supplies of fresh bread, cooked meats and vegetables fresh from the market. There is a huge supermarket also close buy for anything else you may need. The great thing about this place as well, especially if your like me & can’t speak very much French. The owners are fluent English speaking people. The owners son was very helpful in directing us to interesting places that were around as well as filling us in on the amazing history of the chateau. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I am happily going to book another trip as I know I didn’t see all we wanted to and we enjoyed our stay so much.

“Relaxation of both body and mind and so much more besides…….”
Having spent 4 days in this gorgeous location, I was consumed by the peace and tranquillity as well as the beauty of the area. It is close enough to the local village and shops should you need them, but set far enough away as to feel as though you can relax and appreciate the beauty that nature provides every day. The hosts are a very friendly, dog loving couple and nothing is too much trouble to help you fall in love with this majestic property and all that it has to offer. I can’t wait to go back!
