Having spent 4 days in this gorgeous location, I was consumed by the peace and tranquillity as well as the beauty of the area. It is close enough to the local village and shops should you need them, but set far enough away as to feel as though you can relax and appreciate the beauty that nature provides every day. The hosts are a very friendly, dog loving couple and nothing is too much trouble to help you fall in love with this majestic property and all that it has to offer. I can’t wait to go back!
We stumbled on this beautiful, majestic place when flicking through our facebook file on dog friendly holiday accommodation and decided to give it a try. How fortunate we were as everything was just perfect from the start of our holiday right up to the moment we left. Once there, it was hard to venture out the gate for a while, as we relaxed into La Motte’s charm and effect. We stayed in Cockeral Fontaine which is beautifully decorated and was very cosy for our early spring break and perfect for our needs. Our hosts were very welcoming with a hamper of goodies available to help us through our first day and our two Labrador dogs were in doggie heaven, with the wide rolling lawns to run around freely and the lake to swim in. They found friendly playmates with Mandy and Karl’s large extended family of four-legged furry fellows to romp with and took a shine to one of their lovely spaniels, Ronnie. When we decided to venture out, the surrounding area is full of history, culture and excellent cuisine to savour. The Normandy beaches and war museums are just over an hour’s drive, as is Bayeaux with its historical tapestry and Sees cathedral is approximately 30 minutes to the south. Nearby Argentan is a bustle if you want shopping and Ecouche has an excellent patisserie and a friendly English speaking vet, if needed. Our last day we headed to Suisse Normandie (Rock of Oëtre) and had a wonderful walk along the Orne and taking in the stunning views. We finished with a discovery drive back to La Motte winding through the back roads, sightseeing the pretty hamlets that adorn this beautiful area. Come see for yourself, you’ll find it hard to leave. It’s serendipity in its most splendid form.
From the moment we arrived, Mandy, Karl and Sam made us and our two Labradors feel welcome, and are excellent hosts. They are such down to earth people that we felt immediately at home as if we had known them for years. The gite was superb and well-equipped with large rooms and huge windows, and the outdoor space fantastic for the dogs, who enjoyed swimming in the lake or playing on the lawns. We too enjoyed sitting in the outside areas, which are peaceful and well-maintained. The chateau dogs are all friendly, and the chateau itself stunning.
We have just returned from a week in your gorgeous new Gite – our arrival to La Motte was breathtaking, such a welcome, and stunning surroundings. What a wonderful welcome from you all and the very generous and delicious Welcome Pack (four-legged guests loved theirs too) – we purchased some of the wine to bring home 🙂 Everything was perfect and so comfortable, so lovely to find such a gorgeous, clean place to stay with your dogs, we need more places… We sampled two fabulous Restaurants – Catherine’s Table and La Renaissance – amazing food, surroundings and service – such good value. Amazing Boulangerie in Ecouche, local produce market in Argentan on Tue/Fri – loved Belleme/Falaise and Cabourg – beautiful sandy beach and promenade. We returned home laden with wine and cheese, and so relaxed and regenerated, probably the most relaxing doggy holiday we have had. Good Luck for the summer, although I think you will be fully booked in no time.
