Montgomery’s luxury holiday accommodation in Normandy
Montgomery’s is situated in the oldest of the chateau outbuildings and adjoins the chateau entrance gates. It is entered through a very old double door and then via the original oak staircase to the first floor where most of the accommodation is situated.
As you arrive on the 1st floor landing there is the first of 4 bedrooms on the right hand side, this looks out over the front of the chateau grounds towards farmland. This is a double bedroom with wooden parquet flooring, chest of drawers, hanging rail and bedside tables.
At the top of the stairs across a small landing is the door to the main salon. This room has 4 windows with double aspect views over the front and the chateau gardens – its view of the main lake is stunning. It has a wooden floor and large Persian rug and is of massive proportions, housing 3 sofas, a dining table and 8 chairs, coffee table and numerous other small pieces of furniture. There is a bookcase that houses books, DVD’s and games for use during guests stay at La Motte. There is a TV, DVD and Free Sat box.
The kitchen is open plan from the salon. It is well equipped with electric fan oven, induction hob and extractor plus coffee machine, family sized fridge, dishwasher, toaster etc. There is sufficient crockery, cutlery, serving dishes and cooking utensils to comfortably prepare and serve meals for up to 10 people.
From the main salon there is a small hallway that leads to a newly fitted WC and a shower room with large shower, wash basin and toilet. Just beyond this, facing out over the farmland at the front of the chateau is a double bedroom with wooden flooring, bed and side tables, chest of drawers and hanging rail.
In the corner of the main room a spiral staircase winds up to the minstrel’s gallery that overlooks the salon. There is a small seating area, ideal for relaxing with a book and a cup of freshly made coffee.
There are a further two bedrooms on this floor. The 1st is a large double with wooden floor, ensuite shower room, bed and side tables, hanging rail and chest of drawers. There is also a chaise longue. The final bedroom is the very large family room. It has wooden flooring, chest of drawers, hanging rail, bed and side tables plus a small seating area and table. A small step down takes you behind the exposed stone fire breast wall to an area where there is a small double bed, drawers and chair.
There are tables and chairs for you to eat alfresco anywhere you choose within the Chateau grounds, whether that be beside the gite or overlooking the lakes. There is a gas Barbeque for guests use along with outside dining crockery and barbeque tools.
Whilst the grounds are our private garden we love them so much we are happy to share them with our guests and so you are welcome to use them as much as you would like during your stay with us. We would ask guests with small children to ensure they are fully supervised at all times as there is lots of water at La Motte and we know how children seem to be drawn to it and don’t always see its dangers. You can feel free to move our outside chairs and loungers to your favourite spot or maybe you would just prefer to lie in one of the hammocks at the side of the lake or sit on one of the old stone benches and enjoy a glass of wine (or two!)
There is parking for guests at the front of the Chateau and within the gates.
There are plenty of power points throughout Benjy’s to plug in any items you may want to bring with you on your holiday to La Motte. UK/European adapters are available if needed. Benjy’s is heated throughout by electric radiators, and the windows are double glazed to help keep you snug when it’s chilly outside. There is a fully equipped laundry room located in the ground floor of the building that houses Benjy’s. It contains a washing machine and tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. We ask that guests provide their own washing powder/liquid etc.
All guests receive a welcome pack on arrival – make sure you tell us your preference for red, white or rosé, and we will do our best to ensure your personal favourite is in your pack! We supply all bed linen, towels, tea towels etc., for use within the gite. Please bring your own towels if you are planning on going swimming. We have a selection of pushbikes, board and garden games etc., for all our guests to borrow during their stay. There is a selection of books and DVDs for you to loan from – most of these are housed in the Château but guests only need to ask and we are happy to share!
We have some leaflets and brochures that provide information on local attractions and events for you to look through if you choose. We have very good links with our local Tourist Information Office in Écouché, where there is information on literally everything that is happening throughout Normandy, and beyond!
One of our greatest passions is our dogs and we know that many of you feel the same about your furry friends too! It is with this very much in mind that we want to welcome other well behaved and friendly dogs (and their humans) to La Motte and so we offer dog friendly holidays here.
We are happy for your dogs to use our gardens but ask that they are always fully supervised and that you clear up any mess they may leave behind. We can supply poop bags for the duration of your stay to help make this task a little easier.
We would also ask that you do not let your dogs on the furniture in any of our gite’s unless they are well covered in the Throws we are happy to provide for your use. We ask this as we know that when they have spent an hour frolicking in the lake it can seem like 10 giant dogs have landed on the sofa not just one small one!
As well as throws for the sofas and chairs we provide a pile of towels for drying off four legged guests after a swim in the lake (this seems to be a favourite past time for our own and guest’s dogs!)
Our own dogs are raw fed and if yours are too we can have a selection of their favourites in the freezer ready for your arrival or you can bring your own and use the ample freezer space we have dedicated to dog meals!
Our local vet is just 3 kilometres away in the village of Ecouche. They really are the most fantastic group of people who we have got to know very well since we moved here! The vets and receptionist have a good enough understanding of English to understand what is said to them and communicate well with you. Actually, they tell us that our many four legged guests are doing wonders for improving their English! Guests tell us that the price of the passport health check and worming tablet is less than they have paid in any other vet in France and the service and attention received second to none.
Please call or email us to discuss your pet and its needs before booking your holiday at La Motte as we can make sure everything you need to make them comfortable is in place so that they enjoy their holiday as much as we hope you do
Pricing is £500 per week. Montgomery’s Gîte sleeps up to 10 people.
