Benjy’s Gîte luxury holiday accommodation in Normandy Benjy’s is situated on the first floor in one of our two 15th Century outbuildings. It has duel aspect views: the windows at the front look out over the lawn that forms the roadside boundary of the Château, planted with walnut and fruit trees, and hedged with wild rose bushes – at the rear the view is of the Château itself, and its lake and gardens. Entry to Benjy’s is possible via a door in the exterior wall of the building, or via a second door that is within the Château’s courtyard area. You enter into a large room that has an original red tiled floor and beams, and here you get your first glimpse of the wonderful staircase that takes you up to Benjy’s. As you climb the stone stairs, past the refurbished original stone walls, you get a true sense of the age of this wonderful building, and of the skills of the craftsmen who built it. You enter the gîte and are in the open plan kitchen/eating area. This has double aspect views through windows that are over two metres high, and retains the original stone tiled floor and double doors through to the Salon. The kitchen is fully fitted with integrated fan oven, microwave and four ring electric ceramic hob. It has a dishwasher and under counter fridge. There is an electric coffee machine, kettle, toaster and juicer – plus all the usual pots, pans, glasses and cutlery you would expect in a well-equipped kitchen. There is sufficient room for four people to eat at the table, which is situated against the wall opposite the kitchen units. On entering the Salon through the double doors you get the full effect of the four metre high ceilings as the light floods in through this room’s four windows to truly show its grand proportions. The room is furnished traditionally, with a large sofa and matching armchair plus coffee tables, a glass-fronted bookshelf, and various small side tables and lamps. There is a TV and DVD player, and a quick knock on the Château door is all that’s needed to loan DVDs from our large selection! The views from this room over the gardens are fantastic as they include the lake, formal gardens, parkland, and of course the Château itself – on the opposite side the views are of farmland and the lawned areas outside the Château wall. From the Salon there is a door through to the bedroom, which is furnished with a wrought iron style 5ft bed, bedside tables, chest of drawers, and hanging space. This room looks out over the gardens, with the Château to the left. There are two doors into the bathroom: one directly from the bedroom and one from the Salon. The bathroom window looks out over the front of the Château, over towards neighbouring fields where horses graze. It is fitted with a large level access walk-in shower, toilet and hand washbasin. There is also a heated towel rail.
Outside Space. There are tables and chairs for you to eat alfresco anywhere you choose within the Château grounds, whether that be beside the gîte or overlooking the lakes. There is a gas barbeque for guests to use, along with outside dining crockery and barbeque tools. Whilst the grounds are our private garden, we love them so much we are happy to share them with our guests, and so you are welcome to use them as much as you would like during your stay with us. We would ask guests with small children to ensure they are fully supervised at all times as there is lots of water at La Motte and we know how children seem to be drawn to it and don’t always see its dangers. You can feel free to move our outside chairs and loungers to your favourite spot, or maybe you would just prefer to lie in one of the hammocks at the side of the lake, or sit on one of the old stone benches and enjoy the views. There is parking for Benjy’s guests at the front of the Château.
General Information. There are plenty of power points throughout Benjy’s to plug in any items you may want to bring with you on your holiday to La Motte. UK/European adapters are available if needed. Benjy’s is heated throughout by electric radiators, and the windows are double glazed to help keep you snug when it’s chilly outside. There is a fully equipped laundry room located in the ground floor of the building that houses Benjy’s. It contains a washing machine and tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. We ask that guests provide their own washing powder/liquid etc. All guests receive a welcome pack on arrival – make sure you tell us your preference for red, white or rosé, and we will do our best to ensure your personal favourite is in your pack! We supply all bed linen, towels, tea towels etc., for use within the gite. Please bring your own towels if you are planning on going swimming. We have a selection of pushbikes, board and garden games etc., for all our guests to borrow during their stay. There is a selection of books and DVDs for you to loan from – most of these are housed in the Château but guests only need to ask and we are happy to share! We have some leaflets and brochures that provide information on local attractions and events for you to look through if you choose. We have very good links with our local Tourist Information Office in Écouché, where there is information on literally everything that is happening throughout Normandy, and beyond!
Dogs. One of our greatest passions is our dogs and we know that many of you feel the same about your furry friends too! It is with this very much in mind that we want to welcome other well-behaved and friendly dogs (and their humans) to La Motte, and so we offer dog friendly holidays here. We are happy for your dogs to use our gardens, but ask that they are always fully supervised and that you clear up any mess they may leave behind. We can supply poop bags for the duration of your stay to help make this task a little easier. We would also ask that you do not let your dogs on the furniture in Benjy’s, as when they have spent an hour frolicking in the lake it can seem like 10 giant dogs have landed on the sofa, not just one small one! Please call or email us to discuss your pet and its needs before booking your holiday at La Motte, so we can make sure everything you need to make them comfortable is in place, and so they enjoy their holiday as much as we hope you do.
