Benjy’s Gîte luxury holiday accommodation in Normandy
Benjy’s is situated on the 1st floor in one of our two 15th Century Outbuildings. It has duel aspect views – At the front windows looks out over the lawn that forms the front boundary of the Chateau – it is planted with walnut and fruit trees and hedged with wild rose bushes. At the rear the view is of the Chateau, its lake and gardens.
Entry to Benjy’s is possible via a door in the exterior wall of the building or via a 2nd door that is within the Chateaus courtyard area. You enter into a large room that has an original red quarry tiled floor and beams and get your first glimpse of the wonderful solid stone staircase that takes you up to Benjy’s Gite.
As you climb the stone stairs past the refurbished original stone walls you get a true sense of the age of this wonderful building and the skills of the craftsmen that built it.
You enter Benjy’s and are in the open plan kitchen/eating area. This has double aspect views through windows that are over 2 metres high and retains the original stone tiled floor and double doors through to the Salon. The kitchen is fully fitted with integrated fan oven, microwave and 4 ring electric ceramic hob. It has a dishwasher and under counter fridge. There is an electric coffee machine, kettle, toaster and juicer plus all the usual pots, pans, glasses and cutlery you would expect in a well equipped kitchen. There is sufficient room for 4 people to eat at the table which is situated against the wall opposite the kitchen units.
On entering the Salon through the double doors you get the full effect of the 4 metre high ceilings and the light floods in through this rooms four windows to truly show its grand proportions. The room is furnished traditionally with two large sofas and matching armchair plus coffee table, a glass fronted bookshelf and various small side tables and lamps. There is a TV, Free Sat box and DVD player. The views from this room over the gardens are fantastic as they include the lake, formal gardens, parkland and of course the Chateau itself as well as farmland and the lawned areas that are outside of the Chateau wall on the opposite side.
From the Salon there is a door through to the bedroom which is furnished with a wrought iron style 5ft bed, bedside tables, chest of drawers and hanging space. This room looks out over the gardens with the Chateau to the left.
There are two doors into the bathroom – 1 directly from the bedroom and 1 from the Salon. The bathroom window looks out over the front of the Chateau over towards neighbouring fields where horses graze. It is fitted with a large level access walk in shower, toilet and wash hand basin. There is also a heated towel rail.
There are tables and chairs for you to eat alfresco anywhere you choose within the Chateau grounds, whether that be beside the gite or overlooking the lakes. There is a gas Barbeque for guests use along with outside dining crockery and barbeque tools.
Whilst the grounds are our private garden we love them so much we are happy to share them with our guests and so you are welcome to use them as much as you would like during your stay with us. We would ask guests with small children to ensure they are fully supervised at all times as there is lots of water at La Motte and we know how children seem to be drawn to it and don’t always see its dangers. You can feel free to move our outside chairs and loungers to your favourite spot or maybe you would just prefer to lie in one of the hammocks at the side of the lake or sit on one of the old stone benches and enjoy a glass of wine (or two!)
There is parking for guests at the front of the Chateau and within the gates.
There are plenty of power points throughout all our gite’s to plug in any items you may want to bring with you on your holiday to La Motte. UK/European adapters are available if needed.
All our gite’s are heated by electric radiators throughout and the windows are double glazed to help keep you snug when it’s chilly outside. Montgomery’s and Cockerel Fontaine both have wood burners too.
There is a fully equipped laundry room located in the ground floor of the building that houses Benjy’s and Cockerel Fontaine. It contains a washing machine and tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. We ask that guests provide their own washing powder/liquid etc.
All guests receive a welcome pack on arrival – make sure you tell us your preference for red, white or rose wine and we will do our best to ensure your personal favourite is in your pack! We remember doggies like treats too when preparing for your arrival!
We supply all bed linen, towels, tea towels etc for use within the gite’s Please bring your own towels if you are planning on going swimming.
We have a selection of pushbikes, board and garden games etc for all our guests to borrow during their stay.
There is a selection of books and DVD’s for you to loan from – most of these are housed in the Chateau but guests just need to ask and we are happy to share!
We have some leaflets and brochures that provide information on local attractions and events for you to look through if you choose. We have very good links with our local Tourist Information Office in Ecouche where there is information on literally everything that is happening throughout Normandy and beyond!
One of our greatest passions is our dogs and we know that many of you feel the same about your furry friends too! It is with this very much in mind that we want to welcome other well behaved and friendly dogs (and their humans) to La Motte and so we offer dog friendly holidays here.
We are happy for your dogs to use our gardens but ask that they are always fully supervised and that you clear up any mess they may leave behind. We can supply poop bags for the duration of your stay to help make this task a little easier.
We would also ask that you do not let your dogs on the furniture in any of our gite’s unless they are well covered in the Throws we are happy to provide for your use. We ask this as we know that when they have spent an hour frolicking in the lake it can seem like 10 giant dogs have landed on the sofa not just one small one!
As well as throws for the sofas and chairs we provide a pile of towels for drying off four legged guests after a swim in the lake (this seems to be a favourite past time for our own and guest’s dogs!)
Our own dogs are raw fed and if yours are too we can have a selection of their favourites in the freezer ready for your arrival or you can bring your own and use the ample freezer space we have dedicated to dog meals!
Our local vet is just 3 kilometres away in the village of Ecouche. They really are the most fantastic group of people who we have got to know very well since we moved here! The vets and receptionist have a good enough understanding of English to understand what is said to them and communicate well with you. Actually, they tell us that our many four legged guests are doing wonders for improving their English! Guests tell us that the price of the passport health check and worming tablet is less than they have paid in any other vet in France and the service and attention received second to none.
Please call or email us to discuss your pet and its needs before booking your holiday at La Motte as we can make sure everything you need to make them comfortable is in place so that they enjoy their holiday as much as we hope you do
